We arrived early this afternoon at the Sugarloaf Key KOA. The description in the Trailer Life Directory made it sound spectacular, but we are packed in like sardines! Even the swimming pool, cafe and hot tub can't make up for the crowding. At least the bathrooms are very clean and the laundry is open 24/7.After setup and naps, we headed into Key West to watch the sunset from Mallory Square. Our timing was perfect: we had about 20 minutes to watch a very good street performer before the sun went down. It was a beautiful sunset, and we had the requisite conch fritters - not a dish we'd choose, but it's part of the tradition.
In the short time we were there today, we saw lots of places we want to visit tomorrow. We found a good parking area - not far from the site of the first Pan American Airlines office. That company started in Key West in 1927 with the first international flight to Havana. Since it's now a restaurant, we may try it for lunch one day.
