We left Lawrence about 9 AM (that seems to be our schedule) and made several stops today. We drove through Manhattan to take a look at Kansas State University – Forrest hadn’t been there since a band trip when he was a student at Iowa State, about 100 years ago.
On the way back to I-70, we drove through an area called the Konza Prairie, one of the last remnants of the original tall grass prairie. We saw signs for the research station, but the prairie grass wasn’t much in evidence.
Our next stop was Abilene, where we had lunch before visiting the Eisenhower home. We watched a 23-minute movie at the visitors’ center, and then had a quick tour of the very modest home.
By 6:15, we were in the same campground in Oakley KS where we had trouble with our converter on a trip in 2007. So far, everything is still working fine. But are we tempting fate??
