Myakka – Day 2

We DID sleep late this morning, after another cold night.  When I wakened and turned on the radio, I recognized “Winter”, from  …. “Four Seasons”.  Most appropriate!

The day was clear and sunny, but windy.  It was a good time to explore the Canopy Walk – a swinging bridge about 30’ high and 40’ long.  At one end was an 80’ tower with a spectacular view .

The nature trail around the canopy walk wound through trees mossdripping with Spanish moss and airplants.

In the afternoon, we biked toward the main entrance and had a close armadillo encounter along the road.  Four deer and a pig crossed the road in front of the bikes.  Along a lovely river trail, we watched an ibis and a snowy egret fishing together.

Down another road, we watched a great white egret beautifully reflected in the water.  reflection

The temperatures dropped quickly in the late afternoon, and we anticipate another cold night.  Thank goodness for the propane heater!

Tomorrow we pack up and head for Oscar Scherer SP, taking a detour to see Aliner friends who are camping in Palm Harbor.
