Thomas Edison and Henry Ford wintered at adjacent estates in Ft Myers that are now open to the public. The AAA book says to allow 4 hours minimum for a visit, and we found that to be a good estimate. Though we arrived at 10:15 yesterday, and left after 2:00, we could have stayed longer. There is much to see – Edison’s botanical lab, museum exhibits, and the homes themselves. The videos and artifacts do a wonderful job of documenting the lives of these remarkable men. The banyan tree, a gift from Harvey Firestone which was planted in 1925, is amazing.
Since it was a warm day (what a change!), we decided to check out Marco Island’s South Beach before heading back to the condo. After we’d gathered a few shells and enjoyed the sand a bit, the wind picked up and a few drops fell – time to go home. My sister got at least a little beach time before they fly home tomorrow!
