The thermometer this morning read 37 degrees. Of course, the forecast is for warming weather next week. Drat!
Closing up the camper went smoothly, even though it included adding antifreeze to the water system and emptying the toilet cassette (which leaks a bit – something I’ll have to look into; not literally, of course!).
On our way north, we stopped at the Marjorie Kinnan Rawlings homestead in Cross Creek. Pulitzer-prize-winning author of The Yearling, she was also a farmer, hunter, and fisherman. The farmstead was a lovely bit of old Florida and one could imagine the author spending hours at her typewriter on the large screened porch.
In Jacksonville, we met up with Christa Snow (nee Zwingle), a next-door childhood friend from Ithaca, and spent an hour reminiscing. What fun to compare memories from those years.
We’re “camped” tonight in a Quality Inn in Richmond Hill GA. We may make it home tomorrow.
